Keywords:
Ginger extracts, herbal toothpaste, oral health care, vitamin DAbstract
This research project report outlines a study aimed at formulating a novel oral delivery system combining vitamin D with ginger to address both vitamin D requirements and oral hygiene. Herbal toothpaste with natural ingredients is acceptable due to their safety and efficacy in reducing dental disorders such as dental carries. The ginger-vitamin D combination was formulated by wet gum emulsification method. It was evaluated for its antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus using disc diffusion method where zone of inhibition was determined. The formulation characteristics such as foamability, spreadability, pH, color and smoothness were evaluated based on British pharmacopoeia tests for semi-solid pastes. A vitamin D toothpaste having ginger with ideal antimicrobial and ideal toothpastes characteristics required to maintain oral health was successfully formulated and evaluated.
